Senior Advisor to Halloran Philanthropies a U.S. based organization that invests internationally in micro-finance, sustainable energy, business impact and community innovation projects; deeply involved in emergent social innovation and design from an ecosystem standpoint at both local and global scales; In Mexico I co-founded The Oaxaca Hub as a space and network supporting individual initiatives that seek to improve well-being from the ground up. We are now looking at the development of a "Center for Social Innovation" that takes a 10,000 foot view of what is emerging locally as guidance for making cooperative investments that unlock higher potential for the broader ecosystem. A first step in that direction was the Oaxaca Forum on Social Innovation. I am also coordinating impact investments for Halloran which has included FrogTek, Clinicas del Azucar and Lumini.
Together with Calvert Founder Wayne Silby, I initiated a proposal to the Obama Administration to create the Enterprise Innovation Fund within the U.S. Government designed to foster social enterprise development through investment partnerships with private sector initiative and risk capital participation. Its influence helped lead the Small Business Administration to form a new $1 billion Impact Investment Fund.
Co-Founder of SOCAP the Social Capital Markets Conference on money and meaning in San Francisco and a member of the Board of Directors of the Buckminster Fuller Institute that awards $100k annually to designer/scientists solving humanities most pressing problems.
Before turning my attention to the development of the social capital markets and impact investing I was a senior executive for several major Wall Street banks in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and a new media entrepreneur in San Francisco where I founded Creative Disturbance with astro-physicist Roger Malina. Creative Disturbance was one of the first online networks to connect artists, scientists and technologists.
Being as present as I can; raising two boys Weston & Sky in Oaxaca and writing a book and screenplay that I started in 1995, the year after leaving traditional reality.
I was born in Omaha and now live in Oaxaca. In between I've lived and worked in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. I'm interested in social capital, collective intelligence, art & technology, pattern recognition, spatial intelligence and mapping. It is culture arising within social groups and networks that shapes people's individual worldviews and behavior. Thus my work merges business, art, entertainment, media and design worlds.
We become what we behold. We shape our tools and then our tools shape us." Marshall McLuhan
We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world Buddha
If success or failure on this planet and of human beings depended on how i am and what i do... then how would i be, what would I do? Buckminster Fuller
